Update

I know I haven't written in any blog anywhere for like a month and a half, so I thought I'd take the time to update you all on what has been going on in my life.

Currently, I am on my second week of two of the first phase of the South Beach Diet. It's been okay so far, but I can tell you right now, if you are really picky about what you eat, you may feel a little sick of salad and omelettes by the end of the first week.

I've been tested a couple of times. Last week, Kate decided to bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies for Bumpa and a couple of her friends that are getting married. Every time she would put a fresh batch into the oven, she'd announce: "I am officially putting nothing in the oven!" It was horrible, because the smell permeated the entire kitchen. But I resisted. The second temptation came at the quatorze juillet celebration at Penobscot School. Not only did I not have any bread or cheese there, but my cue to leave during the evening came when they brought out this huge chocolate layer cake.

But I was a little disappointed with myself and more than a little pissed off at my mother when, this afternoon while she was stocking my fridge with Aquafina, she noticed there were two iced tea cans in there. Giving in to temptation, she asked me if it was alright if she had some. I said sure, but I told her to check the can to see how many carbs were in there. It had a whopping 33 carbs, so I was like, okay, but just have a sip. She did, and then she gave me some. I admit I had a little bit more of a sip than she did. I was surprised at how sweet it tasted. I didn't know how much my body had adjusted to not having carbs. Anyway, after I had my sip, she went out to the kitchen and dumped the rest of it out in the sink! I was so frustrated becase I had saved those cans in there for a reason, and now I am out of an iced tea that I could have enjoyed later this week. Grrr.

In other news, my sister lost a boatload of weight when she went to the doctor's to find out the reason why the fatty foods that she was eating had caused her so much pain. All of us thought it was her gall bladder, but as it turns out, she has what the doctor termed as a 'fatty liver.' This means that because she was so overweight, her liver is having a hard time processing fatty food. I teased her because the french words for fatty liver are of course, foie gras. She would have made a great pâté for Hannibal Lecter. So, in order to prevent that from happening, she has to get down to a healthy weight in order to get her liver back on track. Tomorrow, we maybe going to Bangor to go pants shopping, because she is hard-pressed to find any pants that fit her anymore.

Tomorrow I finally am meeting with Sandi Bilbo to discuss jobs that equal money for me. I have really found my niche at the Penobscot school, but unfortunately they are a non-profit organization, and the best way they can compensate me for my work is by allowing me to take this seminar for foreign language teachers for free. It's cool, because that's a $200+ value, but I can't pay my van payment with that. It's the same thing with being an RA. Sure free room and board are nice, but I was working 168 hours a week (24-hour days minus classes), attending pointless meetings, and dealing with the same loud/drunk people night after night. And my bank acount never got any larger. I really need a job that will advance me so I can get out of my mother's place.

Oh well...it's almost quarter past two, and I have a meeting with the hobbit (Ms. Bilbo) in the morning, so I really should call it a night. Wish me luck on the rest of my carb-free week!

à + !

Salut !
